The Clinical Assessment on the effect of Aspoxicillin(APOXIN^(¢ç)) Respiratory Tract Infection in Childhood

Abstract
30 children with respiratory tract infections including 9 with pharyngotonsillitis and 21 with pneumonia were treated with a new semisynthetic penicillin derivative, aspoxicillin. Aspoxicillin was administered intravenously 40-80mg /kg a day in 4 divided dose for 5-14days. Therapeutic effects were as follows ; Excellent clinical results were obtained in 20 cases(66.7%), good in 6 cases(20.0%) and poor in 4 cases(13.3%). The overall clinical efficacy rates were 86.7%. Five (14.3%) positive skin tests were observed out of thirty-five patients. Four (13.3%) patients among 30 treated patients showed mild side effects such as slight elevation of transaminases and mild urticarial skin rash. These results suggest that aspoxicillin is effective and tolerable semisynthetic penicillin with less side effects for childhood respiratory tract infections.
